My group of companies manufacture, import, wholesale and retail, and they all revolve around the gifts business, amounting to USD50 million annually. The 68 retail outlets in the group can be best described as emporiums of souvenirs and gifts of Asian cultural designs. Forty percent of them are located in the U.A.E and the other 60% spreads out to Europe, South Africa, Mauritius and beyond, not including 18 more outlets in various military bases. Souvenirs with an Asian flavor have been the all-time favorites of my customers and a lot of them have been sourced through the Fair. That is why I spent HKD15 million here last year and I have confirmed orders totaling HKD7 million with four vendors this time so far, including an order for some really gorgeous glass perfume bottles made in Taiwan. More than half of the gifts and premiums suppliers come to this Fair. And the service-oriented Hong Kong fair organization makes doing business easy. What I look for in trade fairs are quality products, good value, prompt delivery and flexible MOQ. The Fair in Hong Kong is the only place to offer all of them. Also I'd like to add one note of optimism—the Fair this year is energetic and dynamic, much more so than last year, giving out the signal that the market is reviving.
Fakih N. P., Managing Director, Fakih Groups of Companies, Dubai, U.A.E.
I started making premium watches in 1994. The company is now dedicated to the gifts and premiums business with a stable of 2,000 items and an annual turnover of USD1.5 million. About 15% is sourced in Hong Kong and the rest from the Chinese mainland. The Hong Kong fair offers better quality products, some of unique design and greater innovation. For example, I have found here today an all-in-one mobile power bank that neatly packs the connection wires inside a single little box. Orders will follow if the vendor is willing to charge a reasonable premium for the design. Design is the key competitive edge of Hong Kong gifts and premiums. The vendors will do well if they are willing to absorb the cost of design through business volume. In this case, they can offer better value and stay competivie with the low-cost suppliers on the Mainland. I will also order sticky memo pads and non-woven bags at this fair. The fair is now much much more vibrant than my last visit.
Say Leng Loo, Managing Director, Memories Souvenirs, Singapore |
I started my own jewelry company specializing in deluxe souvenirs and showcasing my original designs of Hong Kong characteristics two years ago. My company used to promote business through our website and some popular social media platforms. But this fair gives us another great platform to reach our targeting mature markets. Buyers from Germany, London, New York, Japan, Singapore and the Chinese mainland markets contacted us and showed interest to our products.
Ronno Ip, Chief Designer, OAPES, Hong Kong
Green & Associates started to exhibit at the Fair since 1997. Our approach and product lines have grown green probably as a result of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Products designed with a green concept and made of green materials took center stage in our collection. In 2009 we launched a series of product lines under our own brand: OOOBJECT. These are products made of recycled breakfast waste such as egg shells and coffee grounds. For me, the fair is not just made business contacts but to stimulate ideas brought by visitors. The gifts and premium market is hot in eco-friendly and sustainability. Potential partnership have made from the universities and NGOs.
C.L. Lam, Creative Director, Green & Associates, Hong Kong
